Mandy Laing - 5 Element Acupuncturist / Chester Brand Photography

Back in September, I was lucky enough to travel to Chester to photograph Five Element Acupuncturist Mandy Laing for a second time. It’s such a privilege to get to work with the same client multiple times, it deepens your bond, builds trust and enables you to work more quickly, creatively and bravely. Mandy is a really special soul, she’s so gentle and thoughtful. I just adore being in her company, her energy is very grounding and she pays so much attention to what everyone around her needs, thinks and feels. Her clients are blessed to have her!

For Mandy’s branding photography session, one of the key elements of our brief was to move away from the traditional images you see of acupuncturists at work. Nothing too bright an airy or clinical, and to take the focus away from the needles and put more emphasis on human touch and connection. I photographed Mandy in a consult with a client (thank you to the wonderful Emma for modelling for us!) and we made sure to capture her process, including all the stages from the initial consult to the treatment. I wanted to focus on Mandy’s hands to show the importance of touch in her work, as well as the connection between her and Emma. All the images go together beautifully to tell the story of the holistic approach Mandy has with her clients, and the warmth of her care and interaction with them. I think Mandy is such a magical soul, I wanted her to have images that can convey that to her potential clients and build trust with them before they even reach out to her for the first time.
