Kirubajinie is the brainchild of Jesline, a mother and designer of Sri Lankan heritage who weaves her history and culture into the clothes and homewares she creates. Every item is designed by her from scratch, including the wood blocks that are carved by artisans in India and used to hand block print her fabrics. Her pieces all tell a story, and they are crafted with a timeless quality meant to transcend the seasons within our lives as well as in nature too. Jesline has such an eye for colour, pattern and detail and her designs are so well thought out, each one inspired by clothing she loves to wear herself or that reminds her of her native Sri Lanka.

Jesline and I have been trying to work together for the last few years, but for one reason and another the timing was never quite right. I was so thrilled that the stars aligned this November so that we could collaborate on these photos of her new designs for Kirubajinie, as well as to create some images she could use to promote her block printing workshops. We had the best day! We knew we had a lot to get through, and were under time pressure for both of us to make the shoot work between the school runs, but I am so pleased with the images we created together. Our main aim for this shoot was to capture some starter images for her website, to begin to tell the story of the products and show the detail and quality of each item. We are hoping to plan a second shoot in the coming weeks to focus more on the dresses in her collection, so watch this space for those!
